Keyes went from pumping gas to running two of the most recognizable brands in America, 7-Eleven and Blockbuster, and the through line he credits is education. The book makes the case that education, formal or self-directed, is the mechanism by which people gain real freedom and control over their own future, and that it does not end with a degree. It draws on his own path out of a working class childhood in Massachusetts and on the work of the Education is Freedom Foundation, which he founded to help students fund and finish college.
